News

Stick Territory

10.10.06 5:29pm
Stick Territory Alpha Alpha 1 is available in the Software section. There is not a game yet, so don't expect one. However, if you'd like to see what sort of style the finished game will be in it's worth a download. You can post comments in the forum anonymously in the Releases/Stick Territory thread.

Stick Territory

29.9.06 6:08pm
I have started a new game. It is written in C, and is a rough copy of Territory War, a flash browser game. It is turn-based, team-based and stickman based. All of the graphics will be code-generated. This is so that it is easier to pose the stick men without entering a drawing program. Thse drawing programs thought I needed them. Ha! I'll show them. There is currently a segfault to fix, but I have asked on allegro.cc and hopefully somebody will reply. In the mean time, Google for Territory War and get good. My AI is going to be invincible.

PlayStation Emulator

18.9.06 4:09pm
I have used a PlayStation emulator for a while now, but I thought I would mention it here to fill up space in the News section. I own a PlayStation but find it terribly cumbersome, and I prefer to use my computer. I find epsxe to be very good at what it does, and if anybody is looking for a way to play their PlayStation games on their PC, I recommend following the link.

New Site Design

18.9.06 3:55pm
The new site is currently being developed. The reason it is taking so long is my lack of time available. As soon as I have founs enough content to make the News section worth having, this page will be published. The rest of the pages will be published as they are completed. If anybody has any comments to make about the new layout, it would be appreciated if they posted in the forum, or sent me an email. There are some differences between the left and right columns (apart from alignment). I will try to update the right one a lot more often, I would put information about my computer in the right one, the left one has titles, and the left one has links whenever I reference an external site. With external references on the left, Googling or looking in my Links page are your best bet. I will try to say whenever a link is in my Links page. Also, News doesn't get archived. Once it's old, it goes.

Microsoft Break Record

18.9.06 3:52pm
It was recently reported that Microsoft have broken a record previously held by Volkswagen for 5 years. The record in question is most bugs sold by a single company. It turns out that Volkswagen only made 22 million.

Anonymous Posting in Forum

14.9.06 4:49pm
Anonymous posting has been allowed in the Forum. This is for two reasons. Firstly, I find it annoying when I have something to tell somebody on a forum, but am required to sign up to say it, and secondly because nobody signed up to the forum. I can't blame them, though, if I came across this website with the old layout I wouldn't sign up to the Forum. If I did it would be after they released some decent software.

Blog

I have returned to StickTerritory and it is coming along fairly well. I stopped last time because the Collision detection had beaten me. Now I can detect Collision, but acting on it is only 64% done. Those last 36% are a lot harder. I know of a way to fix it, but that would mean that the 64% I've already done would break. There is a lot more information in the forum which has turned into what this used to be - a blog updated very often. Also, the forum has become more active. Everybody go and join and we can have some discussions about software projects and the direction StickTerritory is going.

After a long break, I have decided to make a new announcement. I have removed MEPIS from my computer and put Debian on. I have got my new graphics card and can play 3D games. I have started a project to get pass the RM SafetyNet Filters, and I am at the absolute very beginnings of making a 3D FPS based on the Alien Arena CRX engine. I would also like to announce that Alien Arena is officially the best computer game in the world and that you should all go and get it now. The development team are great, it runs on modest hardware (school computers!), has great gameplay, is fully configurable (you can make new models, skins, and maps very easily) and it is intuitive (the interface, the gameplay). The only thing you might want to change is the controls as the defaults are horrible. Also, as I have now got Debian instead of MEPIS, all the GTK software I have now as a horrible looking GUI and Aero AIO doesn't work properly so you can't have the CPU and RAM usage anymore.

I have decided that Stick Territory has matured enough for it to be worth writing a project page. If you're expecting a game you won't get one. All you can do at the moment is jump and walk. If you have any suggestions you can post in the forum in the Releases/Stick Territory thread. Anonymous posting is allowed.

Stick Territory is coming along well. The players can now walk with everything dynamically calculated (right down to the movement of each leg joint). I have got the day off shcool today for teacher training and we have been installing CCTV cameras at the house because of the thieving people who try to break in. Also, there are only two more pages to do on the new site, the tutorials. Then I can put SoftSynth here, then it won't be long until Stick Territory is playable, so that will get posted.

I have just put the SpaceShips project page into the new layout. That means I only have three more pages to do. The 24 Game Solver, and the Tutorials. The synthesizer should be here soon, people. Also, I have started another game. It will be called Stick Territory and will be roughly similar to Territory War. I don't know if anybody has ever played it but basically it is a good turn-based stickman fighting game. The stickmen actually move, it's not text-based. My game will be written in C, and all of the graphics will be code generated. This is to keep it interesting for me, and will allow the stickmen to do different poses much more easily. If I were using bitmaps, I would need to draw a new picture for every pose, and the collision detection wouldn't be as 'good'. My collision detection nomrally ain't great. So count yourselves lucky that I'm not using bitmaps! Count. Count...

I know that the new website development is coming along very slowly. I also know that some of you will be eagerly awaiting the Synthesizer. I would like to assure everybody that both will be done. This weekend I will try to finish the website. I will then make SoftSynth suitable for redistribution and host it here. It will probably be GPL'd.
